The Producer
In 1988, a Danish and an American couple set out on a sailboat looking for a place to raise a family, plant a vineyard and produce wine. A dream out of a fairy tale that provided the beginning of the history of the company Cortes de Cima, currently one of the main Portuguese wineries.
Located in Vidigueira, Cortes de Cima is a family property managed daily by Hans and Carrie Jorgensen, with an area of 140 hectares of vineyards, where Aragonês, Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Petit Verdot, Antão Vaz and Verdelho are planted. . The oldest vines were planted in 1991, when the Syrah variety was not allowed by the region's regulations. Even so, Hans, convinced that he had the ideal climate and soil for this Rhône variety, created the first non-legalized Syrah wine, produced in 1998 and marketed under the name Incógnito, which quickly gained fame in Portugal and medals in London, Brussels and Bordeaux.
