Tasting Notes

The first impression on the palate is of silky smoothness, but the tannins suddenly explode on the palate with an assertive pungency and a string of acidity that runs through the palate to provide a lively freshness. There is an abundance of fresh wild fruit flavors that remain until the end.

The nose is dense and compact, with impressive depth and structure. The quality of the fruit is excellent, a delicious blend of red and black fruit aromas mixed with notes of dark chocolate, which are characteristic of the Fonseca vintages.

The producer

In certain years, when there is no classic Port Fonseca Vintage wine, a Vintage Guimaraens can be produced instead.

When the Guimaraens Vintage Port wines were launched in 1930, they were made in the same years as the Fonseca Vintage classics but blended from slightly less powerful components, such as the "Chateaux de Bordeaux" secondary wines. Today, Guimaraens Vintage Port wines are made in the years when the wines are more flexible, early maturing in which Fonseca produces larger and longer and longer-lasting Port wines.
