The Producer
Secret spot Wines was born from a dream realized in a project for two and has only one objective: to be able to produce the best wine, true to its origins. The first step was to find an accessible winemaking place, with a mild climate (high altitude), spacious and well dimensioned, which would allow the traditional Douro wine practices to be reconciled with the contributions of modern winemaking. The location found was the Quinta da Faísca Winery, in the parish of Favaios. The construction dates from 1946. In the cellar there were 3 mills and 1 stone caterpillar (on the upper floor) as well as a vertical press. On the lower floor there were 14 wooden casks for the Port and Moscatel stage. In order to create a cellar that would allow small plots to be made using different styles of wine making, some changes were made. The entire reception of grapes was moved to the outside of the cellar, keeping the mills and the vertical press. On the lower floor, 7 vats of different capacities were remodeled, 1 vertical press, 3 fermentation vats and 6 storage vats were installed. In the space occupied by the remaining old vats, the oak barrels are now resting. From sorting to pressing the grapes, no pump is used. The architectural element of this cellar - built on two floors -, so characteristic of the Douriense cellars, allows to move the wine with the use of gravity.
