The Producer
Companhia Geral da Agricultura das Vinhas do Alto Douro was founded in 1756 under the initiative of the Marquis of Pombal, with the aim of regulating and protecting the production and trade of Douro wines. Now known as Real Companhia Velha, it is one of Portugal’s oldest wine companies, with a long history of producing and trading Port wine. Royal Oporto was developed as a commercial name for international markets.
