The Producer

The known origins of the van Zeller family date back to the 13th century, to the Flemish towns of Mechelen and Nijmegen, where they owned some estates, notably in the village of Zellaer. In the 17th century, in the aftermath of the religious wars that swept North and Central Europe, the van Zelleres emigrated to Spain and Portugal, where they settled.

Its connection to the wine business dates back to the beginning of the 17th century, according to the Books of Imposition (1620-1640), which refer to merchants Jorge Fernandes and his son Francisco da Silva Moura, ancestors of the Portuguese branch of the family, of wines registered at the time. These ancestors of the van Zeller family are the first to be aware of an uninterrupted series of 14 consecutive generations that have dedicated themselves, and still dedicate, to the Douro and Port wine trade.
