The Producer

In 1988, a couple made up of a Dane and an American went on a sailboat looking for a place to raise a family, plant a vineyard and produce wine ... and so begins the story of Cortes de Cima, currently one of the main wineries Portuguese. Located in Vidigueira, Cortes de Cima is a family property run daily by Hans and Carrie Jorgensen, with an area of 140 ha of vineyards, the Aragonez, Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Petit Verdot, Antão Vaz and Verdelho varieties are produced. The oldest vineyards were planted in 1991 when the Syrah grape variety was not permitted by regulations in the region. Still, Hans, convinced that he had the ideal climate and soil for this Rhone variety, created the first “illegal” Syrah wine, produced in 1998 and marketed under the name Incógnito, which quickly gained fame in Portugal and medals in London, Brussels and Bordeaux.
