Founded in 1889, the Royal Wine Company of the North of Portugal, known in the slang of the people as the “Real Vinícola” generates, at the time of its creation, a huge confusion between the two Royal Companies, the new and the Old Royal Companhia dos Vinhos do Porto . And it is through the voice of the people and commercial slang that Pombalina Real Companhia, founded in 1756, began to be known as “Real Companhia Velha” and to use this designation as a trademark. The centenary Royal Winery created under the auspices of the Marquês de Pombal became, over the years, a purely patrimonial society, being acquired by the renowned Fladgate Partnership, owner of major Port wine brands such as Taylor's.
