Burmester Vintage Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo 1995 - Port Wine

Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo is situated in the heart of the Port Wine growing district of the upper Douro Valley, with a total area of more than 120 ha. 40ha. are planted exclusively with the best Port Wine producing vines, i.e. Touriga Nacional (11%) Touriga Francesa (12%), Tinta Barroca (17%), Tinta Roriz (58%) and Tinto Cão (2%)-

This estate was purchased by the Burmester Family at the end of 1991; its history, however, goes back to the middle of the XVIII century. The property owes its name to the patron, Nossa Senhora do Carmo (our Lady of Carmo), to whom the baroque chapel of its Manor-House dedicated.

In the morden equipped press-house the grapes grown on the sun bathed slopes of its vineyards are foot trodden and fermented in the traditional big granite tanks known as "Lagares" and transformed into the very best Ports.

1995 was a particularly outstanding year; the very good weather during the flowering and maturation of the vines presented ideal conditions for a not excessively hot harvest, which began on September 1th and ended on September 16th.
