The Producer

Quinta da Calçada is located in the historic center of the city of Amarante, 40 minutes from Porto. It is inserted in the sub-region of Amarante, in the Vinhos Verdes region, about 10 minutes from the entrance to the Douro region. This subregion is characterized by granite soils, with some shale mixtures, and Atlantic influence, producing markedly mineral wines of high freshness and great gastronomic aptitude.

The minimum purchase order quantity for the product is 3.

The 2015 Vinhas Velhas (Quinta da Calçada) it's the wniery's special project from it's 1917 wines, said to be the region's oldest. A field blend, it features Arinto, Azal, Donzelinho and others all in used French oak for eight months. With very little residual sugar and plenty of acidity, it seems quite dry. Not yet bottled or released when seen, this looks to be the best wine ever from Calçada. Simply briliant, it combines energy and concentration. Its bright and intense demeanor goes well with the solid mid-palate. The fruit and acidity balance the oak briliantly. This is, to be sure, a barrel sample, but if nothing goes wrong, it looks like a statement wine. In a great vintage, this is the year this relatively new bottling rounds into from, easily eclipsing the few older ones in this report. It will be released in Portugal in mid-October and on the USA in February 2017.
