Tasting Notes: Casa Ferreirinha Reserva Especial 2003 is a magnificent red wine from the Douro region. It is complex and rich with a classical style that displays the charisma and maturity attainable by few wines. Launched over 40 years ago Reserva Especial is one of the exceptional pillars of Casa Ferreirinha, the brand with the greatest quality tradition in the Douro and one of its most renowned world-wide standard bearers. Made inexceptional years only, a total of just 14 harvests have been declared.
Reserva Especial 2003 has a ruby-red hue with brick-colour hints. It has an aromatic intensity, with a prevalence of very ripe red fruits and spices, such as pepper and clove, as well as warm aromas of well integrated oak to give this wine remarkable complexity. In the mouth it is very well balanced, with red fruits and spices in evidence, especially pepper. It shows excellent structure, firm tannins and a very well integrated acidity. Its finish is long and complex.
Serving at: Ideally the bottle should be placed upright overnight and opened 2 to 3 hours prior to serving. The wine should be carefully decanted in order to separate its natural deposit. Serve between 17ºC-20ºC.
We recommend with: Accompany with elaborate red meat dishes, game and even some cured heeses. It could be tried with wild boar scallops with apples.
