Tasting notes
Color: Ruby. Aroma: Very ripe black fruits happily married with the discreet aroma of wood giving it depth. Palate: Marked by ripe black fruit, such as plum and currant, and black chocolatre well integrated in the good complexity given by the wooden stage. The tannins are polished giving a velvety and consistent body to the wine. End of tasting: Very elegant and persistent aftertaste.
A remarkable wine, produced by the Peramanca riverside. Vinification: After 2 days of cold skin contact, the fermentation took place for 8 days at 24ºC with reassembly of the must. Aging: 12 months in 2nd year French and American oak barrels.
The Producer
Quinta de São José de Peramanca is located five kilometers from Évora, on National Road 114. The large and traditional houses, marked by Baroque architecture, and the adjacent São José church facilitate identification. With 34 hectares, the Quinta has in its manor house and its vineyard its greatest heritage. As for the peculiar name of the farm “Peramanca” (Pedra-Manca), it means “oscillating stone, not very safe”, it is explained by the existence in the region of large granite stones in oscillating balance. Since Roman times and over the centuries, the surroundings to the west of Évora have been considered as one of the most important regions producing quality wine, the area having become known as “Terras de Peramanca”, given the abundance of these oscillating stones. At the end of the 19th century, the wines produced there even won several medals in international competitions. However, by that time, the scourge of phylloxera came to end the cultivation of vines in almost the entire country.
