The Producer
The history of this company begins in 1730 when Henry Burmester and John Nash founded Burmester & Nash in London, at the time dedicated to the grain trade. It was only in 1750, already in Vila Nova de Gaia, that they began to sell Port Wine through its exports to Europe and the British Isles. In 1822 Frederick Burmester became a renowned member of the English colony in Portugal, being Treasurer of the Factory House in Porto, in addition to developing business in the English capital, as a founding partner of Westminster Bank. Among the 12 brothers, John William, also dedicated to the financial world, was founder and director of the London County Banking Company. Frederick Burmester was forced to abandon Portugal due to the Napoleonic invasions, leaving no direct descendants.
